When working with high-impact teams and their leaders, Tuckman's team development model is often cited by leaders – particularly the "storming" phase. Unfortunately, many teams mistakenly believe that "storming" will naturally resolve itself over time, but that's not always the case.
Consider it akin to a disagreement with a loved one – if your relationship lacks conflict management and repair skills, issues can linger and resurface in unhealthy ways. In such cases, time alone doesn't heal wounds.
Likewise, your team needs to learn how to effectively address the challenges that arise during the storming phase; it won't magically work itself out. This is why I'm cautious about teaching Tuckman's model to leaders, as it's often misapplied without the necessary context and support for the team's development.
